What is Sensex

The S&P BSE SENSEX (also known as the BSE 30 or simply the SENSEX) is a stock market index that is considered to be a barometer of the Indian stock market. It comprises of 30 well-established and financially sound companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The index is calculated using free float market capitalization weighted methodology, where the level of the index reflects the total market value of all the companies in the index relative


to a particular base period. It is widely used to measure the performance of the Indian equity market.
